Hill College Board of Regents holds April monthly meeting

On April 16, 2024, the Hill College Board of Regents met for the monthly regular session meeting.
The minutes from the March meeting were approved. The financial report was also presented and approved. Tuition revenue is up from 2023.
Hill College President Dr. Thomas Mills presented his report, including upcoming events such as the annual Boots & Suits event on April 18, the choir concert on April 23, the Hill County Summit on April 25, and the Hill College Rodeo on April 26–27.
An update on enrollment was presented; overall enrollment numbers continue to remain steady.
Personnel updates were also presented and approved.
Vice President of Student Experience Lizza Ross discussed student activities and community events, including Hill County Senior Career Day with the City of Hillsboro and Hillsboro Independent School District, as well as the Leadership Education Day at the Johnson County Campus. Ross also reported on the last Performing Arts Series of the 2023–2024 academic year, Voices of Fort Worth, and student activities related to the eclipse, including a talk by Leticia Ferrer, a renowned eclipse chaser, the highway cleanup for the eclipse, the star party at Wallace Park, and eclipse watching tips by faculty members Dr. Anthony Ololo and Dr. Sagar Paudel.
Other events included the annual color wars, the annual fishing tournament, the music student’s trip to the Meyerson symphony in Fort Worth, and Pi Theta Kappa’s food bank drive at the Hill County Campus.
Dean of Students and Athletics Randy Graves presented the athletic report, including recognition for 29 student-athletes who were named to the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference All-Academic Team. The men’s rodeo team is going into the Hill College rodeo in fourth place, the women in fifth. Three track students attended the Leopard Distance Carnival meet in California, with one student-athlete, freshman Josh Gill, running the second fastest time in school history. Vice President of Administrative Services Billy Don Curbo presented a consideration of approval for furniture purchases for the Johnson County Campus for a total of $54,169.26. The motion passed.
Dr. Mills presented the cancellation of election for open board positions since no opposing candidates were presented. The motion passed.
Vice President of Student Learning & Success Irene Accomando presented a consideration of approval for the 2025-2026 academic calendar. The motion passed.
Accomando also presented a consideration of approval of curriculum changes for the Field of Study (FOS) psychology, HVAC, automotive, office administration, medical office administration, FOS criminal justice, American sign language, computer software & media, child development, FOS nursing, and cosmetology operator. The motion passed.
She also presented two considerations of approval for course fee changes as well as a tuition increase for this year’s Kids College. Both motions passed.
